About me ...
I was born in Middlesbrough and have two sons Andrew and Matthew. I graduated from Teesside University with a BA Hons in Interior Design and then went to Durham University to get my teaching certificate. For many years I combined art and design and teaching. However, when my own sons left to go to university, I realised I could then devote myself to painting.
I have always admired the Pre- Raphaelite painters, especially the poetic and romantic images of Rossetti, Millais and Waterhouse. The wonderful, haunting work of the contemporary artist Israel Zohar continues to be an inspiration.
I paint in oils and acrylics using several glazes of thin paint overlaid with impasto to create hazy and evocative images. The concept of combining fine art and abstract elements creates a unique image which is traditional in manner, but has a very contemporary edge. Many paintings are on box canvas which require no framing and gives a modern look. However, they can of course be framed if preferred.
Several of my Paintings have been produced as Limited Edition Signed Giclee Prints by the international publishing house of Solomon and Whitehead. This has allowed my work to reach a larger audience and the prints have been very well received. Please look at the Prints page to find out about these. Prints can be ordered through almost any gallery local to you.
I have taken part in several exhibitions throughout the UK and you can find details of the galleries who exhibit and stock my work on the Links page. My paintings have also been profiled in various magazines and newspapers and my work is in collections in many countries in Europe and America.
